Where will the Summit Take Place?

The 2016 Adventure Travel World Summit will be held in Anchorage, Alaska. The sessions, meals and networking will happen at the Dena’ina Civic Convention Center (shown as the red pin), in the heart of downtown Anchorage, with easy access to the city’s amenities, hotels and even a nearby national park. Official hotels are shown as a blue pin on the map.

Airport & Shuttles

More than 240 flights arrive daily at the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC). Downtown Anchorage is just 6 miles from the airport, or a 15 minute car ride. Visit Anchorage is offering airport transfers on select days and times to the official ATWS hotels. Taxis and hotel courtesy shuttles are also available.

Airport to Host Hotels

  • Every hour on the hour (no shuttle 5-7am)
  • Outside Alaska Airlines baggage claim, door 1

Host Hotels to Airport – please sign up for your airport shuttle at registration check-in for shuttles on Friday, Sept 23 3am to 10:00pm. Shuttles will depart from these three hotels every hour, ten after and 20 after the hour:

  • Hilton – :00 (3rd Ave side)
  • Hotel Captain Cook – :10 (5th Ave side)
  • Marriott – :20 (7th Ave side)

A limited number of bikes, courtesy of Lifetime Adventures, will be available during the Summit at the Dena’ina Conference Center for quick trips around downtown or a longer ride along the Coastal Trail. Bikes will need to be returned to the Denaina Conference Center prior to the end of each Summit day. More details will be available onsite.

Accommodations

ATTA and Visit Anchorage have secured three world-class hotels all within a five-minute walk to the ATWS venue — the Dena’ina Civic and Conference Center — at a discounted rate for ATWS delegates. This walkable Summit reduces our carbon footprint by allowing a Summit without a daily shuttle service to the venue.

In addition to the official hotels, the city of Anchorage has many lodging options including bed & breakfasts, a local youth hostel and several beautiful hotels and inns. Access additional accommodation options. Please note if you aren’t staying at the official hotels, you will need to arrange your own transfer to and from the airport – also, be sure to ask your lodging provider if they offer discounts to ATWS delegates.

The cut-off date to book your official ATWS hotels is August 21.

September 10 – 15
If you are attending a Pre-Summit Adventure, your trip will begin one of these days. Please check with the tour operator and your Pre-Summit Adventure page to get your trip’s specific itinerary.

Sunday, September 18
It is best to fly in today if you plan to attend the Day of Adventure.

Monday, September 19
7:30 AM- 9:00 PM — Day of Adventure activities leave at varying times. (Optional Photography session from 7:00AM-8:00AM)

Tuesday, September 20
9:00 AM-10:30 PM — Content, Marketplace, Alaska’s Opening Night event (Optional New Delegate Orientation from 8:00AM-9:00AM)

Wednesday, September 21
9:00 AM-8:30 PM — Content, MediaConnect, Cocktail event (Optional Women in Travel Leadership Session from 7:30AM-8:45AM)

Thursday, September 22
9:00 AM-12:00 AM — Content, dinner, closing party

Friday, September 23
The Summit is over. Delegates may fly back home or stay and enjoy more of beautiful Anchorage and greater Alaska.

Adventures

Visit Anchorage is offering some incredible adventures this year.

Pre-Summit Adventures

All delegates are invited to enjoy one of many Pre-Summit Adventures for a nominal fee. A limited number of buyers, travel advisors and media are eligible for a hosted Pre-Summit Adventure.

Day of Adventure

All registered delegates are invited to participate on the Day of Adventure, Monday, September 19th, free of charge. Day of Adventure itineraries will be available to book mid-April.

Post Adventures

Visit Anchorage welcomes media, buyers and other delegates to extend their stay in Anchorage. If you are interested in a post-summit adventure please contact Jara Haas at [email protected] for information on tours available around the state.

Official Air Booking Desk

Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines is proud to be the Official Airline Partner for the 2016 ATWS Summit Alaska. Registered delegates can receive up to a 10% discount to Anchorage from any Alaska Airlines city when you travel, September 10 through September 26, 2016. Delta

Discounts valid on Delta Airlines and Delta Airlines codeshare flights. Discounts range from 3-20% depending on booking class and originating location. Passports & Travel Visa

Travelers coming from outside the USA must have a valid passport. We strongly encourage you to check the visa requirements or contact your local embassy.

For delegates who are citizens of countries that require a visa, the ATTA can provide you with an invitation letter to assist you in your visa application. Registered delegates only, fill out the Visa Letter Request Form. Your invitation letter will be delivered by email as a PDF file within five business days.

Anchorage is a community filled with kid-friendly opportunities for outdoor recreation. Anchorage Museum

The Anchorage Museum is the largest museum in Alaska, specializing in the Art, History, Science and Culture of Alaska and the Circumpolar North. We are proud to offer free general admission to ATWS delegates during their stay in Anchorage. Please present convention or professional credentials to the Visitor Services Staff for admission. Please not that Planetarium and other programs may have their own fees that are not covered with general admission and friends and family are not covered under this offer as well.

Practical Information

WEATHER

Anchorage’s temperature is mild in early autumn. Anticipate temperatures in the high 50°s F with roughly 14 hours of daylight. It is best to wear layers and bring a jacket and rain gear for the evening events.

ATTIRE

As with all Adventure Travel World Summits, the attire is ‘Adventure Casual’. Adventure Casual means jeans or pants with a shirt or fleece, on occasion you may see a sport jacket or very casual dress. An additional warmer jacket or sweater is recommended for the cool evenings. Visit Anchorage says the key to comfort in Alaska is layering clothing. Pre-Summit Adventures and Day of Adventure activities may have specific packing requirements; you’ll receive this information ahead of time from the trip operator.

CONNECTIVITY

Please check with the hotel you will be staying at for additional information on internet connectivity. There will be free WiFi internet access during the Summit at the Dena’ina Conference Center

Travel Protection & Emergency Evacuation

Important Notice: Visit Anchorage has worked with all Pre-Summit and Day of Adventure providers to provide accident insurance to assist participants in an emergency situation. There are inherent risks in the activities offered during the Pre-Summit Adventures, Day of Adventures, and throughout the Summit. The ATTA highly recommends that all Adventure Travel World Summit (ATWS) participants purchase travel insurance to provide the level of protection and support you require during your involvement at ATWS and during Pre-Summit and Day of Adventure activities. The ATTA encourages delegates to consider purchasing travel insurance with ATTA’s Travel Insurance Partner – World Nomads. Additional ATTA travel insurance and safety/medical member providers include: AIG, Global Rescue, and Ripcord – powered by Redpoint.

Visit Anchorage has arranged for other entities to provide indoor and outdoor activities for the Adventure Travel World Summit participants. By choosing a Pre-Summit and/or Day of Adventure tours, you recognize that neither the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA), nor its agents, servants, employees, and/or officers, are in any way responsible for any activities conducted by other entities. You further agree to Release and Discharge the ATTA and its agents, servants, employees and/or officers from any claim relating to either the selection of the other entities or the suitability of the entity to provide the indoor or outdoor activity. You recognize and understand that the safety laws, regulations, and requirements for any indoor or outdoor activity may vary widely from your home country’s similar laws, regulations, and requirements.
